Use of Funds
The Sealives Initiative is an independent Canadian Not-for-Profit media company dedicated to telling factual stories of human interaction with the world’s oceans.
Our mission is to educate, stimulate debate and, ultimately to effect real and positive policy change focused on ensuring the health of the world’s ocean habitats and species. All funding received goes towards furthering our activities towards that goal.
We strive for objectivity and fairness, but our work and our editorial position presupposes that the preservation of the world’s ocean ecosystems such that they remain healthy and self-renewing is the optimal outcome for all, regardless of the opinions of individual sources or contributors. We are politically agnostic and inclusive within that context.
The validity and primacy of science is not a useful subject for debate in our view. For us, science is a guiding light. We will always seek the best data possible and question any data that we find, we don’t waste our reader’s time with arguments claiming that science itself should be set aside.
We publish our content to sealives.org, and to our social media channels. We also plan to hold events in the areas where we work in order to forge links between coastal and non-coastal communities and further our overall goals.
We seek to clearly identify our sources of funding and in-kind sponsorship on our website, and in all instances, we seek sources of funding that align with our stated purpose. Our contributors and our editors do not allow the interests of advertisers or others funding our work to affect the integrity of our content.
